Despite the ease and affordability of buying music off iTunes, I still like to go out and buy a good old fashioned CD once in awhile. There is something to be said for the tangible experience of opening a new CD: the sound of the plastic wrapper as you cut into it, the smooth feel of plastic case, and the best part, the joy of discovering what lies within the liner notes.
I am torn between two worlds; the world of iTunes and that of the local music store. If iTunes were my boyfriend, then CD’s are the ex I can’t stop meeting for coffee. Luckily for my iTunes relationship, artists like Fredo Viola are expanding the musical experience online. They are creating inspiring and engaging digital experiences to accompany their music. Case in point: theturn.tv.
Theturn.tv is part music video, part toy, and part album cover. While I may not be able to hold it in my hand like a CD, the site has created a new way to interact with music. If the online music experience continues to develop in this fashion, I may stop meeting up with my old boyfriend the CD once and for all.
Digital killed the CD star.
