Why does Mars find Venus beautiful?

While flipping through SEED magazine I was drawn to an excerpt titled Does gender change our appreciation of beauty? According to this excerpt, it appears so. Scientists found that both sexes showed activity in the parietal lobes when shown beautiful objects, however only women showed activity on both sides of the brain; mens’ activity was restricted to the right brain. This indicates that on top of judging the beauty of objects based on spatial locations, women also take into account the relative position of objects in a composition.

Obvious jokes aside, what I took from the findings was that men judge beauty based solely on if they find an object beautiful and women judge based on a comparison to other beautiful objects. This is an interesting finding that could have a great impact on how we target the sexes.
